Today I want to share with you a super easy recipe that is quickly becoming our new favorite. This recipe is so yummy and only has 3 ingredients.
Sausage & Apple Kebabs
(adapted from Real Simple magazine)
18 oz. (or 1 package) fully cooked smoked sausage links
2 firm apples (I recommend Fuji)
8 wooden skewers
To get started, soak the wooden skewers in water for 15 minutes. (Here is a trick I use. Because the skewers are so long, it can be hard finding a container to soak them in that isn't huge. I have a 9x13 casserole pan that has a plastic snap on lid. I just use the lid! When you fill it up with water, it is deep enough to soak the skewers, but shallow enough that it doesn't take up a lot of room on my kitchen counter.)
Preheat the oven to 400 degrees. Line a baking sheet with aluminum foil.
Wash and core the apples. Cut them into large chunks.
Cut the sausage on the diagonal into 1 inch chunks.
Alternate sausage and apple chunks onto the skewers. Place them on the baking sheet.
Drizzle the maple syrup on the apple and sausage skewers.
Pop them into the oven for 10 minutes.
After 10 minutes pull out the baking sheet and drizzle the apple and sausage skewers a second time with maple syrup. Cook for another 5 minutes or so until the sausage begins to look crispy. I caution cooking the skewers for too long as the syrup will begin to turn to candy and then burn. Burnt sugary syrup is icky. Trust me.
When the sausages are crispy, they are done! Serve with potatoes, peas, green beans, corn, or any other veggies you like!
